Auctions · Liquidations · Overstock · Marketplaces

Chris Schwartz

I spend my days across auctions, liquidations, overstock, and online marketplaces, where the puzzle is never the same twice. What I love is the untangling: walking into a complicated, messy situation and finding the clean way through. Every deal is a new industry to learn, and that's the whole appeal.

01 / Background

Fifteen years in, it still never repeats.

Chris Schwartz

Most recently I spent four-plus years as President of K-BID.com, one of the largest online auction marketplaces in the country, owning it end to end: operations, marketing, valuation, growth. Before that, a decade learning the trade from every angle.

What keeps me here isn't the title. It's that no two assets, sellers, or problems are alike. One week it's farm equipment, the next it's fine jewelry or a warehouse of overstock, and every one of them is a new industry to figure out. I don't think I've ever had the same day twice.

02 / Approach

Why I love the work.

01

Something new every day

The asset changes, the industry changes, the constraints change. I get paid to keep learning, and I'd do it for free.

02

The complex ones are the fun ones

A clean, simple sale is fine. A tangled, weird, "how do we even move this" problem is the one I want. Finding the path through is the reward.

03

The opportunity is just starting

More categories move to online marketplaces every year. The people who understand the mechanics now will shape the next decade of it.

04

The people are the best part

This industry runs on relationships. It's full of sharp, like-minded problem solvers and entrepreneurs, and the best opportunities tend to come straight out of knowing them.

03 / Connect

Looking for people who see it too.

If you're as interested in where auctions, liquidations, and marketplaces are heading as I am, I'd like to know you. I'm open to comparing notes, collaborating, and finding the opportunities that are coming together before they're obvious. Operators, specialists, builders, fellow problem solvers and entrepreneurs. Reach out.
